Art Happenings January 9-15


New year, new art happenings! Our favorite galleries are back in action with the first shows of the year, setting the stage for the featured art and artists we will see this year. The best part about the art world is that it is all around you – from Oakland to Dallas and Brooklyn. Don’t spend your weekend thinking about what you could have been doing. Go out and do something new by seeing these new exhibitions and exploring new ideas in contemporary art.


 
 

Echo Decoy Limit: Solo Exhibition by Everything Is Collective at The Royal NoneSuch Gallery

On view January 9 – February 14
Oakland, CA

Everything Is Collective is an ongoing collaboration between artists Aaron Hegert, Jason Lukas, and Zachary Norman who use their work in photography, exhibitions and publications to address contemporary issues in image culture.
Echo Decoy Limit presents ideas in the mystic and realistic, allowing viewers to collect answers from visual clues presented in the collection of images. The show is curated by Christina Wiles.

Opening reception is January 9 at 7PM. There is a free artist talk January 23 at 6:30PM between E.I.C, artist Josh Smith, and moderated by curator Christina Wiles.

Duck in the Water: Solo Exhibition by Royal Jarmon at Galleri Urbane Dallas

On view January 9 – February 13
Dallas, TX

Brooklyn based artist Royal Jarmon and Galleri Urbane present Duck in the Water a collection of works that study material presentation through digital technologies and traditional techniques of creation. Jarmon uses these works to examine his place in the art world, specifically that of New York, through exploring techniques and narratives that reflect his self.

Opening reception is January 9 at 6PM.

This Condition: Group Show at Regina Rex

On view January 9 – February 14.
New York, New York

In This Condition at Regina Rex, paintings and sculptures are presented in a critical study of objects of the human nature, juxtaposed in a form of bewilderment to reveal the pathos and humor of our surroundings that is discovered by the artists.

Opening reception is January 9 at 6PM.

Pairs: Jake Longstreth and Andy Woll at Monte Vista

On view January 10 – February 7
Los Angeles, CA

In this exhibition titled Pairs at Monte Vista, painters Jake Longstreth and Any Woll both explore the relationships between landscape and contemporary painting that are free from human existence. Presented together, viewers are encouraged to develop an informed compare and contrast narrative, observing the visual qualities of all works and how the California landscape is examined by each artist through material, design, and aesthetic.

Opening reception is January 10 at 3PM.
